Jersey Rugby Club recognises the health benefits of Jersey Dairy products
12 January 2016
The Jersey Rugby Club’s sports and conditioning coach, Jim Molony has praised the health benefits of Jersey Dairy products and the positive effects a diet rich in dairy products is having on the team.
Jersey Dairy is now in its fourth season working with the Jersey Rugby Club, supplying the squad with a range of dairy products, including milk and yogurts, having first struck a sponsorship deal in 2012.
There is an ever increasing focus by all professional clubs about the need to measure and monitor what players eat and drink in order to make sure that their bodies are in the best possible shape, and dairy products play an important role in this.
All of the players are encouraged to use dairy products as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Jim Molony considers full-fat milk in its purest form to be the best product for Jersey Rugby players. Despite its calorific content the over-riding benefits of milk, butter, full-fat yogurt and cheese are very clear:
- Full-fat dairy products are high in conjugated linoleic acid which has been shown to improve body composition by reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass. This compound is up to 500% higher in grass-fed Jersey herds than grain-fed animals.
- Milk and yogurts in particular have a perfect ratio of protein to carbohydrates, beneficial for training. Whilst the protein provides the amino acids your muscles need to repair themselves, the carbohydrates replace your muscles' energy stores, which are depleted after exercise. Jersey Dairy products in particular have up to 18% more protein than milk from black and white cows.
Jim spends time with each player on a regular basis helping educate and advise on health and nutrition. Working by the motto ‘If food consumed isn’t from the ground, walks or grown on trees players should question why they are eating it’, Jim applies science and reasoning to get the club to get buy into his methods.
With some of the best dairy products in the World, the team are extremely lucky to be able to take advantage of an excellent array of nutritious local products.
