Chairman of Jersey Dairy receives top industry award
28 June 2016
Andrew Le Gallais, the Chairman of Jersey Milk Marketing Board, has won and award from the Royal Jersey Cattle Bureau for his services to the dairy industry.
Andrew is a hugely respected member of the dairy industry in the Island of Jersey who has shown exemplary leadership of the industry over many years.
He attended the Royal Agricultural College in the UK to read Agriculture following which he returned to the family farm in Jersey. He re-developed the farm holding with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, and the Roseland Herd now numbers some 300 milking cows and followers.
Andrew has held many honorary roles within the RJA&HS and the wider community, however it is through his record as Chairman of the Jersey Milk Marketing Board, the farmer owned milk processing and marketing co-operative, that he has shown the selfless commitment to the wellbeing
of the Jersey cow and dairy industry in the Island. Andrew was elected Chairman in 1999 and has been re-elected by his peers at every occasion subsequently. He oversaw the successful sale of the old dairy site and relocation to a new purpose built modern processing factory, which was opened
in 2010, ensuring the assets of the co-operative were re-invested for the next generation of dairy farmers in Jersey.
Andrew has the reputation of being a leader of the highest integrity applying all his efforts and energies to the well being of the Jersey cow and the dairy farmers in the Island. The Agricultural General Committee of the RJA&HS unanimously supported the submission of this nomination.
